Hi guys,
This stray dog was dumped on the main road about a mile from my house on our ranch. I noticed her on Friday, and I’ve been feeding her dog food and water. She likes to hang out near our workers’ break room behind our home (she has a bucket of water there), but she comes over here to eat and hang out sometimes. It is a German Shepard, girl. I was wondering how to deal with the skiddish behavior. I’ve not been making eye contact, I let her be. She doesn’t bark at me or my husband, but she doesn’t let us get too close either.
I made somewhat of a breakthrough today. I was just making sure she was okay, I didn’t get too close, and I acted as if I didn’t see her. She followed me all around the orchard and back to the house; at a distance of course. But she got closer and closer.
I was wondering if anyone has some tips on making her more comfortable approaching. I’ve set up a bed for her and everything outside. I’ve rescued dogs before, so I know when to stop. I was just hoping for some tips on to potentially get her to maybe approach me. I will continue to feed her and give her water, maybe let her follow me, for as long as I can.
She has no collar, clearly isn’t fixed, and I’ve tried to see if she had babies but she doesn’t as far as I can see. She just sleeps under the shade most of the day.
