I’m kind of going through it at the moment with life events one after the other. I recently moved to Southern California and the apartment I’ve been living in currently has a black mold issue caused by a dripping hot water faucet for weeks. I’ve been fighting the battle of it for over a month now, between constantly nagging management & Maintmance to even contacting the city. Btw the city did not care one bit because there was no mold spots later than 12”x12” outside the bathroom. The leaks been fixed for two weeks now, but I digress. I’m basically in a small studio, there’s nowhere for me to hide from it. I stopped using my AC as that thing is infested with it. I got a box fan and a high quality furnace filter taped to the front to stop the spreading of spores, and damp rid to control the moisture. So far so good I’ve stopped what I can of it from spreading. I’ve cleaned up a lot of it with a simple bleach and water solution and vinegar on unbleachable items. However one spot I can’t really clean is the carpet. My entire unit minus the bathroom is carpet. It’s a dark shade of carpet too so I can’t even see what’s lurking inside of it.
Well I recently had to travel back home and get my 14 year old cat on a 14 hour drive. This was last week on Tuesday. Poor thing absolutely hates the car. HATES it. Cried for at least 9 hours of the drive. Definitely stressed the poor guy out and I feel terrible for him. The first few days he was okay. But probably around Wednesday or Thursday he started sneezing. The sneezing got a lot more frequent and I’ve noticed his energy level is not the same cat Ive known and love. He’s barely even chasing flies, doesn’t really care to get up and come to me when I call him for pets. He loves attention and being pet and rubbed. Well tonight I noticed his third eye lid has risen and his eyes are watering. From simple google searching it seems like an upper respiratory infection which low and behold can be caused by mold among other things. I’m moving units on Tuesday (FINGERS CROSSED the date keeps getting pushed back!). So not too far away. However I’m starting to get very worried about my cat until then. I’ve put a table over by the window and leave it open for him during the day to sit by. I went to check availability of appointments through ban-field where I’ve taken my dog to for the last 2 years on a wellness plan, which by the way he has no reaction to the mold at all, as I don’t either. Thinking about enrolling my cat into the plan now that he’s getting up there in age and with this going on now. But I can’t find any ability until Tuesday at the latest as I have to find a doctor accepting new patients. Does anyone know of anything I can do to help him? Antihistamines that are okay for cats over the counter? I need to try something until I can get us out of this unit and get him some veterinary care.
