I have had my oldest fur baby for 7 years and my youngest for 3. My older dog passed away last month and my younger dog took it hard. She adored and wanted to always be with my older dog, who hated my younger dog. Its been a month, and my younger dog is just getting back to her playful self. She won't leave my side, always wants to play, is stuck by my side 24/7. They both slept in the same crate, and now my younger dog will not stay in the crate, she cries all night, and makes me worried about how she digs and rattles the door she is going to hurt herself. She is fine if I let her sleep with me, but she fights to go in the crate when she had no issues before. She tries to get me to play with her like a dog, but as much as I enjoy it, I can not do it all the time. She spends a lot of time curled up in my older dogs old bed, and barking at the dogs next door. She is not the most social dog in the world. I have had friends with other dogs watch her over the years, and she was a jerk at first, but calmed down after a day and was fine.
I though it might be time to find a second dog, since she is getting back to her playful self. Found a puppy and set up a meet and greet, and I not sure. She growled and lunged a bit, but also ignored the puppy for a while. It wasn't the worst outcome, but I still not sure. Its hard since she can not tell me she is lonely, but that is the way she acts.
