I adopted a 5 month old kitten with one eye last night. He is a little skittish, and has spent most of the day under my bed which is understandable. I’m keeping him in my room until he feels comfortable to be out and about confidently without hiding.
Anyway, my 1 year old female cat has always had an attitude with humans, but never usually with cats. We had 3 other cats when we adopted her (2 have sadly passed away in the last year, one was 20 and the other was 11) and she absolutely loved both of them. She was bonded with my 11 year old cat.
I know eventually she’ll be okay, but I was looking for any tips on how to get her comfortable with the new baby. She definitely knows he is here, because she can smell his scent under my door. But when she smells him she hisses at the door and tries to attack my legs even if I’m just walking by her.
I’ve never had a cat that reacted like this with a new kitten in the house, most of my cats have been pretty accepting after a few days of being separated in different rooms.
Any advice appreciated :)
