How to get kitten to drink from fountain instead of sink?

How to get kitten to drink from fountain instead of the sink?

My 6 month old kitten took to loving the bathroom faucet water so much, that she hardly drinks from any other source. She also loves to whine constantly in the middle of the night to prompt my boyfriend and I to turn it on for her.

She and her brother have a large bowl of daily cleaned water in the bedroom, as well as a Catit flower fountain in the kitchen. Four days ago, we bought a large "faucet-like" fountain to hopefully encourage her not to need the sink.

Her brother drank from it every so often but since we got it, she would take a few sips at most per day. Two days ago, we moved it from the bedroom floor to the middle of the bathroom counter, between two sinks, to try and help her associate the fountain with her favorite drinking place. We cleaned it again yesterday and she still prefers the sink.

After researching the problem, it has been said multiple times that taking away the primary source of water is not a good idea. Since she prefers dry food and usually ignores wet food, we would rather her be hydrated.

We have been rewarding her with a treat when she takes a sip, or puts her head close to the stream of water. She is not enitrely treat driven, but I think she's starting to understand the pattern. When she whines for the sink, we encourage her to drink from the fountain, and if she instists against it, we turn on the sink.

She is very playful and curious, she bites and paws the plastic wherever she can.

What can we do to help her transition? Any advice is greatly appreciated. 🌸
