I don’t understand why puppies cost as much as a car.

Today the boyfriend and I went and played with a golden doodle that I was absolutely in love with. Small male puppy. Purebred, I expected him to be expensive. But $4,000?????

I don’t understand how everyone has dogs.

I don’t understand how it’s okay for dogs to cost this much. I went looking further and even mutt puppies are incredibly expensive.

I understand wanting the household to be able to afford a pet, but there is a huge difference between being able to afford to keep a pet and spending so fucking much on one.

I’m just so upset. We have to get a hypoallergenic dog, we can’t just adopt any dog from the shelter. I’ve wanted a puppy my whole life. The last dog I had I adopted at 7 months and it was a lab mix who ended up having tons of medical issues right off and lived with us to be 13 but in much pain for many of those last years.

I’m just so upset. I’ve always been a responsible pet owner. I’ve had my adopted cat for 7 years and she’s the happiest little fluff. I was hoping that having a dog was within reason but I can’t even find a puppy in the 1,000 range that fits our lifestyle and allergy needs. It’s completely impossible now. I’ll never spend that kind of money to get a dog. I’ve got student loans and other things I’d prioritize putting that money towards.

I feel like my heart has been broken. This man I love and am going to spend my life with can’t have just any dog in the house. And I can’t afford the dog we can have. 😞 I just feel like crying. But I guess I’m just venting on Reddit instead.
