He basically wakes me up in the middle of the night (like he did tonight, it's 2:30 AM rn and I can't fall back asleep) so that I can go feed him. He used to be on a better schedule but that sort of accidentally shifted.
Some things to note about him just in case it matters:
-
He has a slow feeder bowl because he eats really fast and had to go on a diet earlier this year. If I fill it too full, he'll eat too much too fast and barf it up.

About a month or so ago, I had to put my rabbit to sleep due to old age and declining health. Ever since then my cat somewhat insists that I stand by him while he eats at night. I'm wondering if he misses the company my rabbit provided since they were both more active at night. They never interacted or anything, but maybe my cat was affected by my bunny's passing more than I initially thought.

I have a hard time simply ignoring him and waiting until morning most of the time. I've become really sensitive to the sounds he makes to wake me up (like pawing at doors and such). I could try ear plugs, but idk if that's the right way to approach this (I'd also feel bad).

He's 14 years old so he's a bit more stuck in his ways and I know this isn't gonna be an easy shift for him.
Any advice is greatly appreciated. I'm fully prepared for this to be my reality for the next few years as he grows old, but man it would be nice to sleep the whole night again. I'll do my best to respond in like 4 or so hours since I think I'm finally tired enough to go back to sleep.
