My pug recently recovered from a surgery on her cheek, and during the recovery process, we noticed that the ear OPPOSITE her surgery scar began getting waxy. However, this wasn't a normal wax. Near the thinner part of the center of the ear, there was a film-like golden-brown wax that kind of flakes off when we bend her ear back to take a look. In the canal of her ear, and along the crevices, there's a bunch of brown wax. We spent a few days just using ear cleaning solution and trying to clean out the wax, but the strange part is that every time I would go in with a cotton pad, it would still come out full of brown wax. It almost seems like a never ending amount of build up or something. Using solution definitely softens it up, so when I wipe it with a cotton pad it comes out like a brown smear more than brown flakes, but I'm still confused as to what's happening?
She's had an ear infection before, but it didn't seem like this. I also read up on ear mites but we have another dog whos perfectly fine sleeping beside our waxy pug (so nothing seems contagious) and there's no signs of "clumps" of wax that mites are known to cause.
We're taking her to the vet this week, but just wondering if anyone has any similar experience of this never-ending wax pool?
