Hi Reddit, could you assist me in my moral quandary?
I've just adopted a very sweet Beagle mix from the local shelter. I've wanted a nice little dog for a while, and I just love her to death. I found out when I got her that she was an owner surrender- that her owners loved her but became homeless. They even kept her then, but found a place to live that wouldn't allow dogs. They were really upset about giving her up. I can't imagine having to choose between having a place to live and having to give up my pet, and I feel so bad. I adopted her thinking this would be "my dog" but I just feel really guilty thinking that there are people out there that miss her and don't know where she is. Has anyone been on either side of this situation? If things improved for them and they lived someplace that allowed dogs, should I try to get her back to them? Because I haven't had her long, I could think of this as a long-term foster and I know there are always more good dogs out there that need homes but I think I would get pretty bonded myself after some time. I would like to at least get them some pictures and offer to let them come visit, but I would want to handle that tactfully so that it wouldn't be more painful for them or the dog. Any advice would be very appreciated.
