Single concern about getting a second cat, looking for advice

Hi!

I currently have one cat in my apartment with my partner. He's super friendly, just turned 1 year old in August, he's fixed, current on shots, loves to run around and play fetch, you name it. Lots of kitten energy. I've been considering for a long time getting him a second cat so he can have someone run and jump around and wrestle with him, since I can't exactly climb under the bed and jump on top of cat towers and whatnot. Before I adopted him, also, he was an outdoor colony cat for the first couple months of his life. I feel like he would absolutely love a playmate, and I have the financial and spacial means to take care of another cat. Since the kitten that I am considering is one of my mother's foster kittens (my family has been fostering neonatal kittens up until adoption for several years now), I was able to take my cat up to meet him, and although my cat was a little skittish because the family dog was around, he had no issues when the kitten would climb under the couch with him and wrestle toys under there. No hissing, no hitting, just some sniffs and watching him race upside down under the couch.

Here is my sole concern: my cat and I have a really special relationship (I didn't register him as my ESA for nothing), and I would be devastated if that changed. We always sit in my rocking chair and watch TV together when I'm home alone, he comes and throws himself all over my legs when I'm sitting on the ground doing something, he plays fetch like a dog for as long as you'll keep throwing, he comes to lay with me in bed if I'm upset or frustrated, etc...I'm worried, what if the addition of another cat takes away from the relationship we have? What if he doesn't want to hang out with me anymore? I know it would be great for him to have a permanent playmate, but I selfishly am afraid of losing the dynamic we have with the way things are right now.

I am possibly way overthinking everything, but that's just me as a person. If anyone has been in this situation, I would love some advice and experiences.
