Recently adopted a 4 month-old kitten who is the sweetest little lovebug with humans, but does NOT like other cats. I got her from a cat rescue, and they told me she doesn't like other cats and will hiss and growl at them. This was proved true when she got mad at us for watching a cat video and hissed at and attempted to fight her own reflection in the mirror last night 😂 but with humans, she is literally the sweetest. She's already so attached to me in less than a week. She wants to be held and petted 24/7, loves kisses and loves being put into a purrito. Because I'm in college and trying to get a job I'm worried how the transition will go when COVID restrictions are lifted and we can go back to school and try to get jobs, etc. I think she'll be very upset if neither me nor my boyfriend are cuddling her and keeping her company during the day. So I was considering getting her a small pet as a friend to keep her company while the apartment is empty.
At her rescue place she was good with the owner's small dogs and birds, but unfortunately neither of those are a good option right now. My apartment is too small for a dog, even a little one, and I don't think I could take the best care of a birdy (I use lots of non-stick pans). So I was thinking about other pets she might like. She doesn't have much of a prey drive so I was considering some smaller ones, but they would of course be in a cage. Fish and other aquarium animals are unfortunately not feasible for us now, and anyway I don't think she'd be that interested in them.
Here are some I'm considering:
- Guinea pigs
- Hamsters
- Rats
- Ferrets (??)
Any thoughts? I would definitely do much due diligence before purchasing ANY animal and this is not at all for right now, this is for when we'll be out of the house far more than we will be for the time being. Probably for a long time. I'm just considering and planning ahead.
