I just adopted a 5 month old calico. She’s very calm and and chill. Such a sweetheart. I also have a 3 year old yorkie. He’s a little on the big side, clocking in at ~13.5 pounds. Yorkie is pretty good with other animals, having befriended many dogs his size and some larger. He’s never dealt with any cat before though. When slowly introducing them, things went smoothly. no issues with each other’s smells and did well with a glass door in between. but whenever either of them get too close without it, it turns into an intense game of tag that i can’t really keep up with. when they first get close, yorkie doesn’t act (or at least, doesn’t seem) angry or aggressive with intent to harm. no growling or barking. it seems to be just over enthusiastic playing. he’ll approach her with his head high and his tongue out. cat gets defensive and hisses but doesn’t physically retaliate. this reaction makes the yorkie get a little aggressive and he brings his tongue in and starts growling a bit. still no huge signs of aggression like loud snarling or teeth-showing. i don’t really have a fear of them truly hurting each other, especially not when the cat is fully grown. but i’d love for them to get along. how do i approach this?
