So I have a cat who is a little over 6 years old. I've had him since he was a few weeks old and he has meet other cats and been fine. My girlfriend got a 14 week old kitten last week. We don't live together yet but might in the future so thought it would be a good idea to have them meet while the kitten was still young. The kitten gets along great with her golden retriever so we thought my cat would be the one who would be hesitant to meet someone new.
However, when they meet my cat was interested and wanted to smell her but she just hissed at him. He's always been a little scaredy cat so he backed away when she started hissing. She stayed over a few hours and we separated them but the kitten just kept hissing. My girlfriends co-worker said to share stuff that smells like each other for a while so they get used to the smells. But now I'm wondering if we should keep trying or just wait until we move in together. Anyone have a similar story or any advice?
