So I recently adopted two kittens. I've had cats before but never this young. They were both very nervous at first but have since calmed down a bit. Goblin, the boy, has mellowed out considerably and comes to me for pets. He's very affectionate now.
The other one, I named The Grinch, still treats me like a monster despite a lot of well-reaearched time and effort being put into trying to make her feel safe and cares for. She doesn't. She's also the constant aggravator of the two, she does every little destructive thing she can, scratches literally everything but the items and surfaces that were created for exactly such an activity, she systematically gets into the very VERY limited number of things I expressly don't want them to get into and have gone to great pains to secure. She has circumvented all efforts.
Frankly I'm embarrassed and ashamed to say I don't like her. She's kind of a little asshole and if I could adopt her to someone else without negatively impacting my other cat I would. But they're siblings and it would be a cruelty I'm just not capable of. However I also get the feeling she can sense my distaste for her. Does that sound insane? I still engage her in play and talk to her when I feed them and give her treats and attempt unsuccessfully to pet her. But I feel like she can sense my contempt when I find her up to her bullshit.
What should I do?
