My puppy is almost a year old and lot has happened with her and her playmates since she was born.
Where she was born to her german shepard mom and lab dad I witnessed the miracle of puppy birth and then watched the mom begin to eat a puppy. It was horrible and sad but the rest quickly started to eat and she didn't eat anyone else. I learned to not remove the puppies as if the mom is going to eat them there should be a good reason.
Day 3 came and their mother wanted nothing to do with them so I learned to calm an upset mom and kind of hold her still while they ate for the next 2-3 weeks
Week 3 we soaked puppy food in water and they got their first real meal. All the pups were happy and full for the first time in days as their mother hated them.
Week 5 we started hard food with no water and started going outside to potty though we had lots of accidents that their mom no longer cleaned up
Week 8 I brought her to my house for the first time and she won the hearts of everyone here with her playfulness and being a cutie. She began real potty training that took a couple of weeks and we still had accidents if we got too excited.
The next thing to happen was at 3 months when we woke up at 3 am and began vomiting like crazy. We had gone to the vet and started vaccines but I feared the worst. I cried and held her and called the emergency vet who said I could bring her in but to watch her for any tiredness. Do not give her the pink over the counter stuff as it is no longer pet safe.
She was okay and we haven't had another episode since but I was scared for her and held her all night. She just wanted to sleep but I made her use the bathroom too many times out of worry.
Month 5 I held her little cat brother as he died from being inbred. He just started to go and I held him as he peed on me and everyone said goodbye. It was heart breaking and we learned not everyone takes care of their cats and let's them inbred too much can lead to this.
Month 6 we learned gabapentin is safe and aspin is safe for dogs as her 26 year old pit grandpa goes on them for hip problems We also learned to not let rando dogs in the house as we accidently got exposed to new worms or bad stomach issues from another dog that we found on the side of the road. Due to covid it was really hard to get animal control to take her as we had her almost 2 weeks. They call it a stray hold even if you don't do it properly and it becomes yours after 10 days. I didnt have the money to help this dog and had to give her over and they almost didn't take her.
We also get sprayed. I took pictures every day of her incisions and took her outside on a leash as instructed. We all ended up taking to cone off of her too early but she didn't even care about it. I felt they didn't give me enough pain killers for her and was overprotective but it ended well.
Month 7 we are back to ourself and playing hard with our best friends.
Month 8 we are rebellious and do not want to listen to a word anyone says or to our known commands. We also start pulling on walks and it is very big regression we are still working on. We also go to college with mother and learn how to be in a kennel. We walk to go potty and have to be quiet at night. It sucks but we learn in a few weeks.
Month 10 we are a unicorn for the holiday and our grandparents give us alot of treats. We also get a new pit named El jehe and learn that not all dogs play the same. We are friendly and learn different temperaments through him. We also start to push him when we are unhappy with where he is sitting.
Month 11 Thanksgiving brought a lot of turkey and ham into our lives and we got to eat boiled turkey heart, liver, and balls. I learn new recipes to feed her.
Month 12 here we are. We have eaten Christmas lights. Scared mother with hiding baby jesus who is glass. Pulled stuff from under the Christmas tree.
I have learned alot this year about animals and how to take care of them. It is scary and rewarding when you pup listens or doesn't. I have learned how to cook homemade dog food, treats, and brush dog teeth. She is the best thing to happen to me and I'm grateful for her. Im excited for next year with her. If anyone has any advice for next year let me know. Its been a long puppy year with her.
