I have a 8-9 month old German Shepherd, maybe 1/2 GSD mix (not sure who his dad is). I am only person in my household and have been unemployed since Covid-19 shut down the place I worked at, so I've spent a lot of time with him at home since he was a small puppet. He enjoys his car rides and going places with me, but there are places he cannot go, so I have to leave him at home. When he is left alone, in his kennel (which is a rather large kennel, so there is plenty of room), he throws a huge fit while I'm gone. He has bent most of the bars by biting them, and the kennel is almost destroyed. He will also drool, or lick, or something, drenching his front paws, front legs, and face in what I believe is drool, as is doesn't smell like urine, and there is no puddles in the kennel. He has also broken out of the kennel and destroyed all the curtains in the house, pawing them down, breaking the curtain rods in the process. He will also do this if not in the kennel, which I now have to put an external latch on, as he can now push/pull the door enough to dislodge the preexisting latch. I feel bad that he freaks out so much, and am afraid he will injure himself if I keep putting him in the kennel, and i don't want him tearing up the house if he's not in the kennel. I don't know what to do with him. Especially when I return to working, and will have to leave him alone for 8+ hours. Any advise? Please help.
Edit:
He is fixed. Also, if anything is left with him in the kennel, or close enough to the kennel that he can reach it, he will completely shred it. I also leave him with a puzzle food ball, which either doesn't keep him occupied in there, or doesn't occupy him long enough. When I'm home, he'll play with it for a long time, until he empties it.
