Girlfriend left her kitten with me.... thoughts?

Hi All,

My girlfriend left her kitten (6 months old) with me as she was going back to her home country for 2 weeks for Christmas + New Years.

Not sure what to think about this situation? I've been around her kitten / cat before however we never specifically bonded.

1. Kitten is normally bound to my girlfriends room in her apartment. She shares an apartment with one other roommate.

2. Kitten has been to my apartment on multiple occasions. She'll usually bring him when she stays over on the weekends.

3. Kitten and I haven't particularly bonded. I think...? that he remembers who I am.

4. Kitten seems to be looking for her continuously, and it's breaking my heart.

What can I do to help the kitten? My heart is breaking into pieces because it seems the kitten is continuously looking for my girlfriend. There's a robe that my girlfriend wears regularly at my apartment that he sniffed and then shortly went purring and looked around my apartment.

My girlfriend left a t-shirt that she wore, but that's about it.

What can I do to cheer the cat up? I try my best to play with him using lasers as well as his favorite feather toy but he becomes disinterested in the toy relatively quickly.
