Forgive me if anyone else has posted something similar, from the few I read my situation seems to be a bit more aggressive and beyond any point of help. My partner and his cat moved into my apartment two years ago. Things were tense with the cats, his male, my two females, we figured it was possibly because his cat was moved into established territory so we kept them separated from each other. We have since purchase a house and figured with all new territory things might go easier and they'd get along. Wrong, wrong, wrong.
His cat has on multiple occasions attempted to kill each of my cats. I have had cats all of my life and never have I ever seen anything so intense. He hunts them like they are prey. The female cats are small in comparison to him. They are half his weight. We keep them isolated and cycle which cat gets to be out in the main house at any point. They all have their own litter boxes, food and water bowls. Calming collars and the calming plug into the wall things do nothing. The females are absolutely terrified of him.
Has anyone dealt with this before? When I say he tries to kill them, that's exactly what it is. He has snuck out of his room before and had one of the girls by the throat and was chomping on her neck while she struggled to breathe. She was soaked in pee and shaken up but everything was ok. Now he has done it again, we were incident free for a while but this morning he had the other one by the neck as well. She was sleeping on the couch and when we heard the cries we found him on top of her and clumps of her fur and blood on the couch. Nothing seems to work. And when you attempt to raise your voice or say no to the male cat he will get defensive. I have had him attack me so psychotically I was covered in scratches and he was lunging at me for more.
Is this cat beyond help? I can't ask my partner to give up his cat he's had for 5+ years. The cat loves him and is occasionally very sweet. But I can't handle having my other cats living in fear. Any advice is appreciated.
