Need advice, cat become weak an lethargic.

Apologies if this is too long, but I just want to run through the entire course of events to get the best advice I can

Yesterday I came home to find my 14 year old cat had gotten himseld some really bad fleas. The poor guy couldn't sit still and was constantly aggressively attacking his back legs, tail and pulling his fur out of his back. So I gave him a flea tablet with some food and he came to lay down on my desk afterwards. Whilst on my desk I was able to see the extent of his flea problem, I could see black dots crawling all over him and I must have ended up pulling ~20 of them out of him myself and I couldnt help but wonder how he wasnt showing any signs of irritation the day before because this clearly hadn't manifested in one day.

Anyway, because of the extent of how bad his fleas were I decided it would be best to run him a bath. I knew he wouldn't like it but if it was going to allow him to lie down comfortably in the end it was for the best. So I ran a very shallow bath, made sure the water was nice and warm, I knelt down in it and gently lowered my buddy into it. Needless to say he enjoyed it about as much as you expect a cat to enjoy water but I tried to keep him in just long enough for me to scoop some water over him. When I got him out of the water there were so many fleas floating in it and I could see even more crawling to the surface of his fur and jumping off.

After the quick bath I immediately dried him off the best I could and sat him down on a towel next to my radiator. This is where his behaviour started to become a bit off. He groomed himself a bit after I put him down and then just sat there with his head against the wall which I thought was odd. I tried to give him a treat and he just sort of took it into his mouth, licked it a bit and then dropped it which is very unusual because he normally goes crazy for these treats. So in the end I assumed he probably didnt get much sleep if his fleas were that bad and left him. After 3 hours I checked on him and he was still laying next to the radiator and the sound of me walking towards him woke him up a bit. I gave him a bit of fussing that he normally likes and tried to give him a treat again but this time he just refused the treat altogether and he felt extremely limp when i was fussing him. At some point during the night I fell asleep and in the morning he was just as lethergic and refused to eat any food, not even the wet food he normally loves. I picked him up and normally he will only be carried in a very specific way but he was like a ragdoll in my arms and so I set him down on my bed and he just flopped down on the spot I set him down on when usually he'll take a good 10 minutes to find the best spot and settle down.

That about takes us up the the present. Does anyone have any ideas whats going on with my cat? Do you think he's developed some sort of flea related illness? I'm really worried about him because he's never been like this before
