Need advice on how to make my older cat like my new kitten

So a stray cat my wife and I had been taking care of had kittens. The stray cat ended up bringing her two kittens to us when they were about 6-8 weeks old (I’m assuming the age). We took care of them and treated them like they were our outside cats. My wife finally convinced me to adopt one of the kittens who was extremely attached to us. We took the other kitten to a no kill animal shelter because we just couldn’t afford vet bills of two more cats. The other kitten had gotten sick and didn’t come home. So when the other kitten finally came home we put her in a kennel and took her to the shelter to get help. It broke our hearts because we loved both of them. We already have a cat and a dog. Our older cat is having trouble getting used to the new kitten. We have the kitten staying in my office for the time being while we try and get our older cat used to her. So far, a few times a day, we put up a gate in the door way and let our older cat sniff the kitten and see her. We read that that’s how we should introduce the two. It’s been 3 almost 4 days now and our older cat is still growling. I’m wondering if this is normal to take this long and if there is anything else I can do to make my older cat feel comfortable with our new kitten. The kitten has no issue with our older cat. Our older cat is a male and the new kitten is a female.

TLDR: Older cat doesn’t like our new kitten. Need advice on how to introduce them properly.
