Outdoor pets

I am genuinely seeking advice/opinions. My family loves animals but my husband is pretty allergic to animals. He also has asthma which is the problem. When he has an allergic reaction to animals it triggers his asthma. He has tried allergy shots but he had to stop those because his reactions to the shot were too bad. We used to have a toy poodle but he would still react to her. She has since passed and we now have a large breed outdoor dog. Our outdoor dog is a catahoula mix girl named Charlee. She is super sweet and we all adore her. She has a heated dog bed and we let her in the basement when the weather is bad. We live in the southern USA so our winters are pretty mild. We would love to rescue a pet from a shelter and I have been doing a lot of research on that recently. My concern is that a lot of the rescues/fosters are wanting dogs to be indoor. Unfortunately that is not an option for us with my husbands allergies. I see a lot of strong opinions about outdoor pets and I am just wanting some advice/opinions from other animal owners about having outdoor pets.

I truly try to give Charlee her best life and I know she is happy. My wish is to do this for another dog that has not had a good life. I just cannot offer an indoor life inside my house.
