I just adopted a lost or potentially stray cat after (so far) being unable to locate his original owner (if he had one) for a few weeks. He is an intact male and unfortunately the clinics in my area are overbooked so the soonest I could get an appointment to have him fixed is the end of next month.
Disposition-wise, he was incredibly sweet and friendly initially, and he still is, but in the last few days he has started attacking me and meowing loudly when I lie down. I understand that this behavior will likely cease after he is neutered, but I am concerned after reading that this could be a sign of pain or illness, and might see if there’s any way I can get a vet appointment beforehand.
I am working from home for the foreseeable future, so I’m there all day and play with him for nearly an hour before bedtime and sporadically throughout the day; I’m confident that he’s getting enough exercise/attention, just wondering if anyone has experience with this/advice on what to do while I wait for his surgery date? I’ve started shutting him out of my bedroom at night, with food/water/toys/lots of places to hide/sleep, but I feel REALLY bad about it and know he meows a lot at night. Sometimes, he is absolutely peaceful and fine sleeping in my bed with me, but if he starts attacking and I stand up/walk away, he latches onto my legs and continues biting. I really hate shutting him out, but can’t keep getting mauled every night, and he has other rooms to roam out there... I’m just not sure what else to do, so any input would be greatly appreciated!
