Separating 15 Weeks old Cat Siblings

We adopted a kitten from 1250km away and brought the other one as well for the other family. It was very helpful for them to travel together for 10 hours, they cuddled and slept all the way. Normally the boy was adopted by us and the boy was adopted by the other family. When we came back to home, we saw that the male is half size of the female and really scared of anything around the house for 2 weeks. Now it is getting better but they sleep(cuddled) together, the go to their litter together, they play together. I don't know if that makes them strongly bonded.

Anyway, when we saw this, we offered to the other family to have another kitten (we bared the cost and everything else), same kind(BSH) and same color even same age and definitely cuter/prettier. But they are insisting to have this boy and saying that they are bonded with him through videos and photos sent to them. They do not want to have another cat. The adopter told us that we can keep them both and basically block the other family since we both didn't pay anything for the cat, just the cost of travelling 2500 km in our side. The vet also advised us to keep them together, since the boy is so scared of anything and dependent on the boy all the time while eating and sleeping. So the question is, do you think it would make them sick(mentally or physically) if we separate them?

Or is it better to separate them when they are around 6 months old? Now they are 15 weeks old.
