Hello all. Sorry, this one will be a little long. But I have to get this out there. I don't expect solutions or anything, but I just need to talk a bit, if only for my sake. My mom and I made a lot of mistakes, and I freely admit that.
So, a little backround. My mum became a widow 9 months ago, and covid has made her life a lonely hell. All her neighbors and friends have been getting cats and their lives have been better because of it. So, in a desperate effort to help, I thought my mom might do better with a little friend too. Because she has allergies, I did research and settled on a Siberian for her. Found a local add, arranged to meet the breeder so my mom could see if her allergies would be okay. The breeder, promised that we could return the kitty for a full refund within the first 2 weeks no questions asked. So, we meet the kitty, and she is a little dream, and my mom didn't react to her at all. We were so happy, that we didn't pay attention like we should.
We bought her right up (with cash), and went home. Noticed that the Breeder forgot her papers. didn't think much of it and just messaged her and figured i could get them later. The first day was all good. But the next day mom's allergies kicked in, and by the hours she was getting much much worse, even after taking all her meds. It got so bad I had to take the kitty with me so my mom wouldn't end up in emerge. My two older cats are super happy with this arrangement /s >.<
So, in a bit of a panic I message the breeder pleading to return her that day. It hasn't even been 24 hours yet. She says she needs to pull the money together. Like, wtf? it hasnt been a day! We bought the kitty around 4pm and I messaged her around 10 am the next day. my mom and me are just gutted. she says she is trying to line up a new buyer, get the money for that and then refund us. I admit, we messed up. big time, and most likely we were had and the breeder is just screwing us around. Thankfully the kitten is wonderful and healthy. I have no idea if she is really pure bred, but the vet said she is (most likely) siberian. So we have that at least.
We don't have much choice it seems if we wanna try and get our money back except wait and see if the breeder will do what she promised. Of course we want the money back, but more than that this kitten needs to go to a new home. I cannot keep her. 3 cats is too much for my house and my babies are 15 and 13 (they don't need a new sister). I am so lost, devastated and have had some of the blackest 2 days since my dad passed. And my poor mom's heart is just breaking. I feel like a piece of scum for causing her such hurt and probably using her money. Of course since covid, Humane societies and rescues don't answer phones or get back to you. so for now I am caught in this limbo and don't know what to do. I don't even know if I can surrender her cause we don't even have proof that we bought her. I guess we could try to resell her privately and recoup our money if we can, but I am kinda leery going that way since I am super shy and I have no way to really screen people. Anyway, Thanks to anyone that reads this.
