Advice Please

This isn't exactly a question regarding my pet but regarding my puppy that recently passed due to veterinarian negligence. I would put this in a vet group but medical questions are not allowed. I need advice urgently from a professional. I have 2 collie breed pups who have demodex mange. I was finally able to afford a vet trip to get them some medication. They got prescribed ivermectin, which I came to find out later shouldn't be given to collies without a genetic test first. She died overnight and when I found her, I looked up every medication we were given and found that out about ivermectin. Called the vet and they said they hadn't seen that gene in so long in collies they didn't think itd be a problem. They want to reimburse and give credit for our other pup, but it doesn't seem right still. She was only 9 months and did not deserve what happened. Is this something normal for a vet to forget or ignore?
