I’m due to give birth next month and the baby will be sleeping in a bedside crib, so we want the cats well away from the room.
The problem is the layout of my house is pretty crappy where everything is open plan, and the only room with a door that isn’t the bedroom or bathroom is the kitchen/diner. I don’t feel crazy about them being on top of the counters during the night etc but just accepted the kitchen will need a clean down each day.
The problem is we’ve done a few nights dry runs and my little cat non stop yowls, and the big cat pounds the double doors to the point where you can hear it from one floor up. It shows up on our other sons monitor in his room and I’ve not slept well since. If we don’t lock them in that room (with food, water and litter in their usual spots), they essentially stake out our room all night til one of us needs the bathroom and then they’re impossible to remove.
I just want to get them more comfortable to the situation as I am all out of options. I was thinking about a cat tree with hammocks, if comfort is the issue. Did anyone have to cordon off the house like this before and did something in particular work for you? I need my last dregs of sleep before I have a newborn!
