Hello all. I’m new to the subreddit and I come to you all in dire need. This last November we added a new kitten to our family, making this a three cat household. My oldest cat, the laziest and chonkiest boy I’ve ever had, has taken quite well to the new kitten. However my (now) middle child is having a really hard time.
My (now) middle child is turning 2 in March. He used to be a hyper active, extremely affectionate baby. He knows how to play fetch, used to jump up to 3 feet in the air to get a feather wand, and he could sit in your lap for hours and give (and receive) kisses.
With the introduction of the youngest, he’s done a 180. He won’t play with me around the kitten. The kitten will play but my middle cat will stop playing and back up to just watch. He sleeps all day now, and when he comes down to eat (not as often as he used to btw) he strictly eats and then goes back upstairs to disassociate. We recently had to take him to the vet and change his diet because he had crystals in his bladder and blood in his urine. His fur lost all color and he was miserable. Uncontrolled urination, painful urination. After 2 rounds of medication and a diet change, he got better. But today he’s feeling worse again and urinated again behind the TV.
I understand this is probably stress, but what can I do? How do I handle this? I don’t want my cat to be miserable? But I also don’t want to just pass the new Lil guy off to someone, either. Can anyone help?
