Need help identifying what could be wrong with cat.

I'm sorry but this is going to be a long post so bear with me.

Our 11 year old male cat has been acting very odd lately.

He has lost a lot of his appetite, he doesn't always use his litter and shits very hard feces if he does at all, he sometimes at night walks around and constantly meows.

Sometimes he just lays down and doesn't move or react to almost any mild stimuli.

This is the second time this has happened, but the first time there were no litter or digestive problems and we took him to the vet, they couldn't find anything wrong with her based on blood samples and an xray and just gave me a recepie for antibiotics and painkillers.

The medication seemed to help and he was back to normal for weeks but then it started again.

This time we also gave him some of the left over painkillers and also some laxatives, recommend to us by our vet but still it only served to make his digestion better yet all the other problems remained.

The vet doesn't know what could be wrong with him anymore and we neither.

We are currently contemplating whether or not we should put it down.

The wet said we could come down a second time for a second set of blood samples but didn't know if that would do any good since his blood was already examined a few weeks prior.

Any possible causes for these symptoms would be greatly appreciated. Then we could receach more about them and suggest about them to our vet, because how it is looking now, we'll have to put him down without even knowing what is wrong with him.

Also I'd really like your opinion on whether or not we should let it possibly suffer on longer or put him down without knowing what was wrong.
