Newly adopted kitten with roundworms, whats the best way to handle?

My wife and I adopted a kitten a few days ago from a shelter, and she currently is on treatment for roundworms. We didn't think too much about the roundworms, but are now starting to worry a bit. Our main concern is having roundworm eggs passed on to us; I've read stuff online already and would like to hear from your experiences. We know to wash and do hygiene, but we are worried eggs are just going to get everywhere. The kitten is really shy and has been hiding in our clothes, and who knows where she goes in the night. She also hasnt used the bathroom since we got her (Tuesday), but maybe she went somewhere else besides the litter box. the only place to confine her is in the closet, where all her clothes are. Do we need to get a cage? I'm not sure if I'm overreacting, but in not sure what to do in this situation. How to manage, how much should we be worried... thanks in advance
