Context:
None of this makes since. We are losing our minds. Our Gordie is only 8 months old! It hasn’t even been a year since we tragically lost our first beloved family dog to mast cell cancer now our new family member might be suffering from early arthritis and liver failure or something else.... we’re in the dark...Feeling helpless.
We went into our vet on Wednesday to have the vet look at his front leg limp. He was limping on it occasionally and we couldn’t find what was wrong. After evaluating, the vet said they think it’s possible he has a thing called OCD (osteochondrosis dessicans) and they would need to sedate him to take X-rays.
They suggested we get some blood work done in the case we decided to neuter while he was down. Saves money, I guess π€·πΌ♀️. They gave us some pain meds and ordered minimal activity. After a night of researching the OCD thing and coming to grips with a possible bilateral shoulder surgery and the COST... on Thursday, the blood work came back with alarming elevated liver values... what? We were all shocked. The vet asked if he ate something toxic or it could possibly could be congenital liver disease!? Or something else... it’s strange because he has no other symptoms. Same Gordie.
They took us off the original medication and gave us pain meds that are liver-friendly for his leg limp. They gave us liver meds and something else... I can’t keep track. They told us to bring in a pee sample to see if they could get more information.
This morning, The urinalysis came back with bad results suggesting maybe leptospirosis or something else??? They don’t know. He has his leptospirosis vaccine.... And he’s update on all his puppy vaccines.
Meanwhile.... Gordie has been acting like himself... Same high-energy Same crazy-bad-dog antics. The medicine is making him have an upset stomach.... and possibly more agitated, but other than that, he’s pretty normal...except he STILL HAS A LIMP... wtf π€·πΌ♀️
The vet has been closed since Thursday aside from the call about the pee results. They gave us symptoms to look out for in case his liver failed over the weekend and we had to run to the ER. We feel like we are left with a happy puppy- ticking time bomb. We are scheduled to bring him on Monday so they can redo tests and evaluate him??? This all feels too fresh after having to put our last dog down.... what is wrong with you Gordie? You’re only a pup. This isn’t fair. π©
