I picked up a pretty white kitten off the street 2 days ago and was excited to give it some food and shelter for a few days until I could find a home for her. I estimate shes about a month old or so, no sign of the mother but there were two other kittens that I saw down the street. I noticed her tail also is always curled and held down in a weird fashion, so much so that i think she may have broken it early on. But I handled her tail and she exhibited no signs of pain! I thought i was doing a good thing, but now I'm not so sure!
She literally meows as loud as she can for hours each night, and hides in a corner and just stares at the ceiling for hours each day. She woke up everyone in my apartment building twice now, and I dont know what to do!!!! She had fleas I got treatment for, but I'm worried she has something worse going on internally or in her brain. I've never experienced anything like this before and I've dealt with many kittens over my lifetime.
I've tried cuddling with her, giving her toys, giving her a cat bed to sleep in, absolutely nothing works. She just meows and meows and meows as loud as she can in the dark corners of my room behind my dresser and refrigerator, or when I'm holding her. She purrs when we cuddle but that seems unimportant compared with her contest with herself to break the kitten sound barrier for meowing. My whole apartment is upset with me now because of this decision, I've ruined peoples sleep for the past two nights and I'm just at my wits end myself with this cat!!
The cat also ran away from the vet when I brought her for fleas and intestinal parasite treatment, one of the fastest kittens I have ever seen. But the vet said she looked healthy enough for a street cat and nothing about the slightly strange tail behavior.
Anyone have any idea what is going on here?! She eats food fine, she will also go for hours without meowing, but 2-3hours a day and 3-4 hours a night meowing so loud is just killing what I thought I understood about cats!
