Just wanted to vent a story for anyone willing to listen and perhaps get some feedback.
I came home from a walk and there was a very small cat pawing at my door. Not fit in your hand kitten size, but definitely A LOT smaller than an average size cat. So I kept it inside and I went knocking on doors. This lady invited me to a messenger group for the neighborhood and the owners were contacted within minutes.
They were a few hours away and I said I would keep that cat safe for them until they returned and gave them my phone number and address. No thanks or anything just "We are coming home".
So I fed the kitty a small amount of food and water and I wasn't sure if it needed the bathroom so I got a piece of sturdy yarn to tie around the collar. It was in a playful mood the entire time it was here and showed no signs of being fearful. It started playing with the string (before I go it on the collar) and it hurt itself.
I think it accidentally clawed itself in the mouth and started acting strange so I was in a panic. I was trying to see what was wrong with it if the collar got tightened or something and then I noticed a few drops of blood coming from its mouth.
After a couple of minutes it calmed down and started acting normal again.
I called the owners and told them what happened in case they wanted to take it to the vet and the husband went on the phone and got a little bit frustrated and just told me to let it go outside. Not interested that I just let them know it hurt itself while playing.
Then I let him know I let it outside. He replied "Feels good, doesn't it?" As if I was doing something wrong like taking someone cat or something. Just sounded like an asshole.
I just let him know I'm not used to cats that small showing up on my door step and that it seemed hesitant to go outside and seemed frightened. No message back.
Anyway I'm hoping I wasn't in the wrong. I asked multiple people for advice and they all said they would be happy if someone found their cat and kept it safe while looking for the owner. I'm kind of angry from that. I want to tell him he should put a phone number on the collar if letting a cat that small outside. I'm pretty sure any person would have done the same.
What would you have done?
