Sudden aggression in cat

Hey, everyone! So I adopted sibling cats almost three years ago. They’ll be six this year, and they’re actual littermates, so they’ve been around each other for their entire lives. Even at the rescue, they were in the same cage because they’re inseparable. They’re both spayed females, and they sleep together, eat together, clean each other, and will actually cry out to each other if they suddenly can’t find the other one.

About three days ago, one of them started growling at the other one. They didn’t fight, but one would walk by and the other one would start hissing and growling. Then a couple hours later, they’d be completely fine again, and then she’d start growling at her again. I worked as a vet tech for quite a while, so I got her into the vet as quickly as possible, which was yesterday evening. I was thinking it could be a UTI, or bladder crystals, and that she’s just in pain and frustrated. They couldn’t get her to pee for a urinalysis, so they gave her a shot of antibiotics, and a shot of an anti inflammatory.

I kept them separated through the night to make sure no one got hurt, and then they were okay this morning. They ate together and were okay, and then the other one ran up and smacked her sister before running away, and thankfully my other cat is very chill and could not care less, so there wasn’t really a fight.

Could there be some other reason for this sudden aggression? If she doesn’t get better over the next couple days, I’ll be taking her back in. But she has no other signs of illness, and it just worries me. Thanks everyone!
