Thinking about getting a second cat for my cat..

So I rescued a kitten 6 months ago. Her name is Rory. She is the light of my life, and I consider her pretty perfect. She can be very cuddly, but also very playful. She barely sheds. Never goes outside the litter box. Actually plays hide and seek with me. I can go on and on.

My parents live less than 20 minutes from my apartment. So when I was out of town, she stayed with them for a week. We have 3 cats at their house. 2 16 year olds, and one 1 year old. The 1 year old (Luka) hated her at first, but by the time I came back, they were best friends. They were chasing each other around the house and Rory especially was smitten. I’ve never seen a cat love other cats the way Rory does. Even the ones who were very indifferent towards her. The only time I’ve seen her be a bit standoffish was with my friends cat at her apartment, but even then she wasn’t aggressive, she would only do a tiny slap every time he got too close.

Anyway, after her rendezvous with Luka, she seems to be VERY bored at home. She knocks things over on the counter. She tries to wake us at all hours of the night. She eats a lot more at the apartment than she did at my parents house and asks for food more. Sleeps a lot more. She’s extremely clingy. Just her demeanor seems bored.

I personally don’t feel the kitty fever for another cat. But I think her life would be very enriched by another cat. I’m thinking of getting a male kitten. My husband and I are both in the medical field and some days can get very busy.

We are just worried about the extra cost (and poop). We’re making ends meet just fine, but as students, we do try to save where we can. Any advice or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated!
