Sorry if this isn't the right place for this but I am looking for some insight
Our dog has recently become sick and has had diarrhea for the past several days. We assumed it was a reaction from her anesthesia since she was recently put out for some dental work. We have been in touch with the vet about it and they said not to worry. After 5 days of diarrhea (bloody diarrhea on the 5th day) the vet prescribed antibiotics and a probiotic. That was yesterday. Today she seems much less lethargic and had her first somewhat solid poop (after several hours of not pooping at all).
Yesterday we found out that our next door neighbour's dog also had some diarrhea. We thought it was just a coincidence since the neighbour just switched the dog to a raw food diet (which could explain the diarrhea).
Today we found out that the dog of the neighbour on the other side of us also had some diarrhea. Things were starting to seem a little bit too coincidental but our dog isn't good with other dogs and doesn't have contact with either dog.
We wondered if one of the dogs got into our dog's poop in the yard and caught something and transmitted it (since the neighbour's dogs often play) but it seemed weird that our dog would get something contagious in the first place since she is never around other dogs or even in areas with other dogs really. She's an older dog and spends most of her time in our yard or on short walks to the end of the road (rural area).
We were willing to just brush it off as a coincidence, especially since our dog was starting to get better, but tonight our cat had diarrhea and now we're worried that it really must be something that's contagious.
We are going to call the vet in the morning to see what we should do but for now are worried about our animals and the other animals in the neighbourhood. Could it still be a coincidence or what else could it be? A quick Google search pulled up worms, rabies, and mange for things that could be transmitted between dogs and cats but we've seen no worms in our dogs poop and rabies and mange don't seem at all right.
Also, all of the animals involved are up to date on vaccines.
