Hi all,
I'm a first time cat owner, with a 7 months old kitty. I was well aware that I was allergic to certain cats prior to getting him, so I was prepared for the worst. During the first month or so, I had HORRIBLE allergies - every single day - that had me sneezing, sniffling, coughing, and wheezing.
However, I stayed tough because I didn't want to give my fur baby up. I took Benadryl, Claritin, and whatever other antihistamines I could to help me get through the day. After a month, my allergies almost completely cleared up. I stopped having to rely on drugs, and only had minor sniffles when I gave my baby too many cuddles.
After summer ended, my allergies flared up again - not as bad as the first month, but bad enough that it still interferes with my quality of life.
I'm not sure if this is because it's the winter time and my cat is starting to grow a thicker coat, and therefore, has more dander?
I have a HEPA filter and air purifier, and vacuum pretty much daily. I don't allow the baby in my bedroom, but he's free to roam anywhere else.
Has anyone experienced something like this before? Please advise!
