Hello. I don't really know how to start a question so I'll just get straight to the point.
I'm 17 years old, and need some company. I live alone with my mom and have no siblings, and nearly all of my friends have left me. The two that remain rarely have time for me (busy schedules, I don't blame them), and although we love eachother, my mom and I can never have a long lasting conversation with eachother without arguing due to our extremely different personalities.
I go to a charter school where I am only one of two students in a class. It's self paced and we work completely independently, so I don't talk to the other student in my class. It lasts for four hours, and then I go back home.
We have two cats, but I've developed a severe allergy to them over time. I can touch them with my legs if I'm about to take a shower, but never with my hands. Once I get my license and land a job, my mom is giving me permission to drop out and get my GED. She also offered to pay for allergy shots when I'm able to drive myself around, which is an offer I will likely take.
I also keep some fish, but even though I love them and they're very pretty, they don't make for very good company. I also can only see my collection of small, potted plants when I water them due to me being too afraid to keep my window curtains open for extended periods of time.
I'm looking for a small pet that won't be too high maintenance, but one that I'll still be able to take care of rather than just leave it alone. I would prefer one that I can physically touch as well. I love birds but my mom's afraid of them so that's not an option. I'm afraid of bugs, spiders, and dogs. My mom doesn't like rodents but I could probably convince her as long as it stayed in my room. Rabbits need more space than I'm able to provide I think, and I'm allergic to ferrets. My mom is severely allergic to guinea pigs.
I don't want the pet to be a temporary fix for my loneliness until I'm able to be around cats again, I want a pet that will stay with me for it's whole life.
I know there are underlying issues relating to my mental and emotional state that need to be addressed, but I still would like to have company for the next few years at least.
Any help would be great. Thank you.
I'm sorry if there's a text wall, I'm on mobile.
