1) Do cats really knock stuff over very often? I'm terrified that my picture frames, vases, etc will be knocked off my shelves. Of the 3 friends that have cats, none said that their cats knock stuff over but the internet says otherwise.
2) We want to set boundaries for the cat at night. We want the cat to sleep in the basement while we sleep upstairs. Obviously, the cat will have access to food, water, litter, a bed, toys, etc. Anyone have pros and cons to this?
3) Is having 1 litter for 1 cat a bad idea? I've alway read about n+1 rule but i'm actually not sure we have adequate space to put another litter box. (Depending on size). Our house is 3 floors but it's not that big.
4) Is it truly possible to avoid a cat from scratching leather couches? Again, my friends who have cats don't have this problem but the internet makes it seem like cats will destroy couches, floors, drapery, etc. We plan to have a cat tree or 2 and maybe some other things they like to scratch.
5) Apparently cats don't like citrus. So, if I don't want a cat to go somewhere, would I just rub some lemon juice onto it? Would that be a detterent enough?
6) What type of litter is best and safest for cats? I know not to use perfumed litter. Is thrre any litter that is better at retaining bad odor?
Any other advice for a first time cat parent would be much appreciated.
