Moved out, want an animal but not sure if it's the right decision

Hello!

I've moved out of my parent's house about 3 months ago. I've been struggling with depression and it's getting better, and I'd like to get an animal to help make my appartement feel less empty.

Indeed, I've always lived with pets. I had two dogs and a cat at my parent's house. To me, a home without pets feels a bit empty.

I'm thinking about getting a cat because I'm not sure a dog is the right choice (even though I'm more of a dog person) in a 60m2 apt. with no garden. However, I've been unable to make a decision, even though I've been thinking about it for weeks.

One day I think it's the best idea ever and I should get a cat, the other I think that it's going to be too much responsibility/extra stress. I can't decide!

I've got enough savings, and plan to spend a few hundreds € on the adoption. (Adoption fee + getting stuff like food, litter, toys, etc.). I also have my parents ready to take care of the cat if I go on vacation or something. I've pretty much got everything planned.

How can I make sure I make the right decision and do not regret it after? I love animals and want to give a cat a loving house, and I really want to make sure the cat won't be miserable.

Thank you
