Hi all
I have an overweight (160lb) spayed female mastiff/coonhound cross who is very sedentary and is around 5yrs old. (Rescue so can’t be totally sure of age or genetics but that’s what we’ve been told)
I want to put her on a homemade food diet but need to understand the correct calorie intake (I believe her ideal weight should be around 120lbs) and also correct split of macros.
She can’t currently move well due to arthritic shoulders and elbows am wondering if we need lower carb or even lower protein in case that’s affecting her joints.
So far the vet hasn’t given much guidance apart form diet food from a supermarket but I’m keen to do this homemade if possible to also manage costs.
Would anyone have any guidance on how I can figure this out? I’m finding a lot of conflicting information from 1000-2500 a day and also a lot which are high carb (rice / potato) but am unsure of the best route
Any guidance or reading would be greatly appreciated!!
