Hello! My kitty is a 10 year old Tuxedo / Bicolor cat. He is male, and he's fixed.
We found out that he had a urinary blockage / urethral obstruction, and whenever he would try to urinate, he would end up either vomiting, or defecating. It just started last night, he threw up on a carpet, and pooped on the floor, and on his bed. He would get in the position, like he was about to clean himself, but he wouldn't. He'd just freeze up and not move, that was the only comfortable position he could get in. He was having a lot of trouble getting comfortable, and was straining himself when he tried to pee, but instead, he pooped.
The first time we got back from the Emergency Vet Office, the doctor told us that he would need a surgery. They told us that the surgery would be $3,500, then we decided to let them try a urinary catheterization, they sedated him, and flushed his bladder. My parents told me that it is not a 100% guaranteed recovery.
My kitty is currently back home with us, drugged up, and sleeping. He is only drinking, as of right now. They just drained him and gave him to us. He has a bandage wrapped around his front limb (his little kitty wrist). We're just letting him rest, because he didn't get much sleep last night, due to not being able to get comfy. It's been about 7 hours since we got him back from the ER vet, and he hasn't eaten anything. Only drank a small amount of water.
The doctor gave us pills, and liquid for him to take every 8 hours. I want to know if there is anything else on top of the meds for us to do to help him recover, and not die, or something. Should we get special food? Only dry? only wet? Give him more water? Less water? Buy pee pads?
Should I be expecting him to die, soon? Is it too early to tell? I'm sorry if I'm not making much sense, but I'm very nervous, and distraught.
Thank you all for reading. <3
