Need help with birdcage doors

I have one of those standard large black wireframe cages for a lorikeet, and he likes to slam the little sliding doors his feeder/water bowl gets put in through. I need something i can use to fasten the sliding doors closed that is also easy to remove for an elderly person with arthritic fingers.
So far I've tried:
- Bulldog clips (attach funny and aren't secure enough)
- Clothesline pegs (worked for about 6 months until he figured out how to work them loose)
- Piano Wire (too difficult to remove if your fingers have trouble with finicky objects)
For the time being, I've simply resorted to keeping the doors zip-tied closed and replacing the zip ties when I need to. Not an ideal solution.
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Please no "bird bored" replies, he seriously has more toys than he knows what to do with and he gets taken out regularly. Constructive answers only
