Family members doesn't respect cat's boundaries

We've had a cat in our family for almost three years. Sometimes, I don’t agree with how they deal with him and how they treat him but every time I make a remark, I’m made to understand that I’m boring with my remarks and that I’m exaggerating. After all, it's now "my" cat.

But I can’t tell myself that it’s okay when my mother holds it any way and quite abruptly, holding it upside down sometimes; or when my sister drops it at the ground instead of puting it down and peting it vigorously as you would with a dog - while it's sleeping. Of course the cat is protesting, but everyone says that's because of a bad temper and says he should be used to it by now. But he's really calm and nice near me because he know I won't pet it or do anything if it doesn't want to. They act as it should understand everything as if it was a child and when it doesn't understand when they're angry they start to be quite abrupt. I think we should respect the boundaries he sets and accept that he doesn’t like hugs instead of forcing him. But no one accepts what I say. How do you make them understand that? Am I exaggerating? If I don't, how can say what's wrong and being taken seriously (usually they don't care) ?
