So my family picked up a chihuahua from a good friend it’s a long story but our friend took her away from very abusive owners but they couldn’t keep her either due to the fact that they lived in a no pet apartment so we accepted her with open arms. I remember the day so vividly I walked into my house after a long day of school and saw my dad laying with a new cute little chihuahua I face lit up and I got so happy but the first thing she did was charge me and jump at me (she’s kinda funny she never ever bites but she puts on a big show).
I’ve had her for a long time and I’m much older now I’m even graduated. My relationship with her was always strange though because she hated me and only me. We all didn’t understand until our friend told us that the abusive owners let their kids practically torture her holding her by the neck, punching, kicking, slapping, scratching you name it, and what do you know? The kid looked exactly like me. It made me extremely upset.
However over the years I grew very close with her. She slept in my room every single night, she followed me around all the time, she didn’t growl at me as much. It was going good. She became distant I’d say around 3-4 years ago. Never came to my room anymore, never followed me anymore and slowly and slowly she became a little bit more aggressive towards me.
Now every time I come inside she barks, yelps, and growls at me. Even if I open my door to my room which is upstairs she knows it’s me coming. Dealing with this for years starts to make you very upset. I’ve tried so many things to repair our relationship but nothing seems to work. I just walked in about 20 minutes ago and she started yelping and even charged me (I’ve been dealing with so much stress and personal problems I snapped a little) and I just yelled out “GOD I HATE THIS DOG” I don’t mean it at all it just makes me so sad and frustrated. All I want is to walk in and to see her happy to see me rather than bark in fear. Any suggestions on what I could try? I love this dog...
