My long haired cat has matted knots. Vet or Groomer?

Hello all,

I've only had short haired cats and one long hair cat now. I didn't realize I had to brush them to keep them detangled. I will be doing so whenever I get the knots out.

My question is, would it be better to ask the groomer or the vet?

I am very afraid that the groomer might accidently get too close to the skin.. or what if they do injure my cat and my cat needs medicine for the injury?

Would the groomer just shave it off? What's the method they would use on de matting a cat?

I've only seen dogs at groomers in the reviews near me so I'm very worried.

Also the receptionist at the vet told me to take my cat to groomers but I believe vets can do this too? (I am taking my cat to vet anyway for a dental check)

Opinions? Thanks. This is my baby and I just want advice.
