I basically stay home most of the time due to social anxiety, and sometimes I get into a funk where I am just depressed and don't even want to step foot outside my apartment. So, although I have always wanted a dog, this could be problematic for a dog that needs to be walked daily. I know a dog could help push me to get daily exercise, but i live alone and I know how I am. I literally will not go outside if I am suffering from clinical paranoia and/or depression. This is something I need to work on for sure, but I have to be brutally honest about it for the sake of my pet's mental health.
I would obviously bring my pet to the hospital, vet, etc. without question if he or she got sick, and I would certainly be hygienic (cutting their nails, giving them baths, etc. when they need it), but daily walks or anything besides daily feeding? No. I would play with a cat to give them mental stimulation if and when they need it, though. I can handle infrequent things, like groomer, vet, etc., but making a commitment for daily dog walks (for example) wouldn't work out.
Anyway, do you think a cat would be okay living with me, given this information? It is okay to say no. I just want to be fair to the cat and ensure he or she WILL be happy. I would certainly try my best to do what I can, though.
