Partner has cat with FeLV and I have cat without - can we live together?

Hi all! I’m coming to you all with an issue that I’ve been stressing over for months. I have an appointment with the vet scheduled for next week and hope to gain some clarity then, but in the meantime, I’m wondering if any of you have been in this situation.

My partner has an 8 year old cat that has been living with feline leukemia for at least 3 years. I have a 4 month old kitten who does not have FeLV. We have no plans to live together in the immediate future, but that is certainly a goal for a couple of years out. So far, the only factor inhibiting us from doing so is our concern for the cats.

My cat is (and can continue to be) vaccinated against FeLV, but from what I’ve read, the vaccine - like any vaccine - isn’t 100% effective. Is it possible for 2 such cats to live together without the FeLV negative cat contracting the virus?

Thanks in advance!
