Hello pet lovers, I just want to ask you guys something about my newly adopted cat. Before I start about her, I want to let you guys know that I have never had cat as a pet before, so no experience whatsoever about having one. Well, me and my family have been wanting to have a cat for a while now so we decided to adopt one. So about 2 weeks ago, we went to this pet rescue close by and found this adorable 5,5 years old white cat. Short story about her, she was surrendered by her owner, and most of her life she was confined to a room because a family member had allergies. And at the day of the adoption the shelter told me that this cat is on meds because she is having some kind of problem on her colon. She was vomiting, wouldn’t eat and poop. But we took her home anyway. The pet rescue told us to put her in a separate room for a few days in order to get her to adjust to a new house. We have a perfect room for her. It’s an extra room in our house with glass door looking to our living room. So we can still watch her from the living room. In 2 days she’s adjusting pretty quickly to the room, even though she gets startled easily to strange noises. And she started eating and pooping. She would sit on my lap and ask to be petted and walking around the room. After about 5 days we finished giving her the rest of medicine that was given to us. Everything seems to be normal. So we let her out of the room and roam around the house during the day and put her back in her room at night. About 3 or 4 days ago, I was putting her back in her room and my brother was being playful and teased her by putting an orange peel on her face, she didn’t like it and turned her face away from it, and I laughed spontaneously. All the sudden, she attacked me fiercely, I got startled and ran for the door, it took me by surprise because we always thought that she was a sweet, calm cat, just as she has been since we got her. We tried to give her space and time for her to calm down. The day after the incident, she was still hostile, I peeked through the glass door and she ran for it and tried to attack me. Gave her an hour to calm down and we fed her as she hissed and attacked us when we’re in the room. A couple days passed and she was less hostile than before, so I tried to sit across the room and let her come to me. It worked! She sat on my lap, and ask for a cuddling session. Not long after that, as I was moving my hand to reach my head to scratch, she jumped and attacked me again. This goes like this over and over again. I figured she is acting like this because of her trauma in the past. So I decided to let her roam free in the house and be a part of the family. Okay she’s out of her room now. She would stroll around the house but I could tell she’s being cautious. Yesterday, as I was walking to kitchen she popped from under the table and attacked my legs and hissed. This happened to everyone in the house. And today, I had a friend come over and she attacked my friend! This is going out of hand. I felt really bad for my friend. So I put her back in the room by luring her. This has been my method of putting her down. I have never used violence or sprayed her with water. I got pretty frustrated with her. It feels like we can’t do things as we normally would with her around. Should I give her a chance or take her back to the shelter? Because after 30 days, the process will be more complicated. Thank you if you guys are taking the time to read all this.
