I adopted Forest because I was so lonely in my apartment and craved company. But ever since I brought him home, I've rarely had a quiet morning. I need to go slow in the morning, my body wakes up around the same time as dawn comes and I need time to absorb the sun's energy. In the summer time, this means shorter sleep times due to shorter nights, and afternoon naps to conserve energy. In the fall and winter, it's much easier as I can sleep longer and don't need to take naps.
But Forest sees dawn not only as breakfast time, but also as playtime. I throw as much toy mice and hold out wand toys for as long as my still recharging energy can allow, and he still wants more. And if he doesn't get it, he whines and meows constantly. This creates problems for my mental health, which has deteriorated due to living alone with limited social interaction. Forest is also now 2 or 3 years olf and full grown, yet he still seems to act like a kitten. How long does it take for a cat to mellow out with age?
