Good morning.
A little background; my dog is a rescue whose had Lyme disease in the past when he was a stray. He currently has no symptoms and has not had any for the entire time we’ve had him.
Last night we took him for a walk and afterwards checked for ticks, like we normally do, and found nothing. It was late after we got done cooking at my father in laws house so we came back home and went straight to sleep.
Thankfully there was a bad thunderstorm and our dog was up constantly throughout the night waking us up. I say thankfully because as I was petting him I found a tick under his armpit. I quickly grabbed my wife and had her remove the tick.
Here’s the problem; when removing the tick - which she has done plenty of times without issue - she must have squeezed too hard and the tick flew out of the tweezers. We have not been able to find it since then. We did later find, what we assumed, was a leg from the tick left on our dogs spot. He does have a raised bump that we cleaned quickly but have no idea what to do now.
I do plan on calling the vet as soon as they open as well.
